Andrew Androff Candidate for City Commissioner |
|
Dear Royal Oak Resident -
Please allow me this opportunity to thank you for exercising your right to vote. This year, you will have three votes to fill three open seats on the City Commission. The elected City Commission members will be joining the current Commission and Mayor to tackle such controversial issues as liquor licenses, Public Safety, property taxes, budget decisions, union negotiations, and proposed new developments. As a candidate, I want you to be informed and know where I stand the issues. Then, if you feel that I am who best represents your vision for the future of Royal Oak, I ask that you cast one of your votes for me.
Many of you may remember me from the 2007 City Election when I narrowly missed out on earning a seat by less then 354 votes. Others of you may know me from my years spent serving our community on the Royal Oak Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals, and The Traffic Committee. Through my civic experience, I have consistently demonstrated my ability to remain focused on the actual issues, never allowing personal differences or squabbles from preventing me from doing what’s best for Royal Oak.
I am the ONLY candidate who agrees with our past and current Police Chiefs who recommend AGAINST liquor license transfers from outside the city, based on Police staffing reductions. I am proud to put Your Public Safety First by supporting the Proposal to Amend the Liquor Control Ordinance. As a Commissioner, I will not compromise the safety of our neighborhoods. Our Public Safety is only as good as our Police, Fire, and EMS’ ability to adequately service our entire city, not just our downtown bars.
Another position that I would like to share with you is my approach to the budget challenges, and property taxes. For the last several years Royal Oak has been in a “structural deficit” and is spending $2 million more than it receives annually. This is at a time when unemployment in Oakland County is higher than 15% and many of our residents are living on a fixed income. My loyalty will always be to you, the Royal Oak taxpayers. I am absolutely against a property tax increase to balance the budget. I will reform the city, and work to bring it more in line with the private sector by more focused and tougher budgeting, eliminating wasteful expenditures, and better utilization of the revenue we currently receive.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. As always, your thoughts, ideas, and concerns are important to me, I can be reached at (248) 240-0764.
Your Neighbor, Andrew Androff
