Rasor for Royal City Commission

Royal Oak, MI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: September 23, 2009

Woodward and Cowan endorse City Commission Candidates Poulton and Rasor

Royal Oak, MI — September 17, 2009 — David Woodward and Dennis Cowan announced their joint endorsement of City Commission Candidates Dave Poulton and Jim Rasor in the upcoming November election.

Jim Rasor and Dave Poulton are both outstanding citizens, very experienced in city committees and will be positive additions to the Royal Oak City Commission.  Both have served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, which is a key city committee that helps carryout the City’s land use policies.  “They also have proper temperaments to restore civility and a progressive attitude to our City Commission,” stated both Cowan and Woodward.

“Too many times in the recent past, there have been petty political agendas and lack of progress because of personal differences between Commissioners.  That has to stop.  The City needs to move forward,” said Woodward.

Cowan added, “When hours of valuable City Commission time are wasted debating which official will host a cable tv show or the annual holiday parade event, it does not reflect well on the City Commission.”

We know that Poulton and Rasor will be focused on what is best for the citizens of Royal Oak and not any individual agendas.  “While David Woodward and I are on different sides of the political fence, when it comes to the City of Royal Oak we are united in wanting to do what is best for our community,” Cowan said.  “The City Commission positions are non-partisan and its members need to work together for the good of Royal Oak,” Woodward added.

“We urge our fellow Royal Oak citizens to vote on November 3rd for Dave Poulton and Jim Rasor.”

David Woodward is former Chairman of the Oakland County Democrat Party.  He served as State Representative (D) from 26th District, serving Royal Oak, from 1999 to 2004.  He is currently serving his third term as Oakland County Commissioner from the 18th District, also serving Royal Oak.

Dennis Cowan is former Chairman of the Oakland County Republican Party.  He served as a Royal Oak City Commissioner from 1988 to 1993.  He was Royal Oak’s Mayor from 1994 to 2001.  He currently is the head of the Business Law Department at the Plunkett Cooney law firm.
